If you know me, you know that healthy living plays a huge role in my life and as soon as I found out I was pregnant, you best believe I did my research on EVERYTHING. What surprised me the most is that virtually every well known and trusted baby product out there on the market is loaded with toxic crap that are harmful to our little ones bodies. Every parent wants the best for their children and here are my top pics with links attached to help everyone out there make healthier choices.
It is unreal how many toxic chemicals are found in name brand and popular baby shampoos and bodywashes. (Including those that claim to be “all natural”) This stuff right here is my fave and safe for little ones! It is fragrance free which makes it ideal for infants and sensitive skinned babes. All of California Baby® shampoo’s and bodywashes are allergy-tested, tear free, non-drying and free of scent-masking agents and clear formula chemicals. This formula contains organic and sustainably grown ingredients, no added fragrance, scent masking agents, clear formula chemicals, or sulfates, and is vegan and biodegradable.
Have you checked the ingredients in any basic nipple butter? This one was a big concern on my list because that cream you’re rubbing on your nipple is entering the babies mouth. Earth Mama Angel Baby’s Natural Nipple Butter was the first lanolin free nipple cream and the first verified non GMO nipple cream to hit the baby market! It is a toxin free, calendula nipple butter rated 1 on EWG’s Skin Deep Cosmetics Database. The best part? No need to take it off before nursing because I mean who has time for all that?
This stuff right here is da bomb! Urban Oreganics is a small shop based in Oregon with amazing products handmade by a mama with one mission; to make non-toxic, organic, vegan and 100% natural products. Their Baby Butter is literally the best. I use it on Elijah as a moisturizer, for his booty, scalp and even on myself from time to time! It is made with pure virgin coconut oil, raw shea butter, non-GMO vitamin e oil and calendula- all organic ingredients of course. Every babe out there deserves this magic on their little bodies!
LOVE THESE! I was so skeptical about buying cloth nursing pads at first because of possible leakage and what not, but these are amazing! I can literally go all day with these under my bra and not have to worry about leaking milk everywhere! They are super thin, super soft and super comfy! Although disposable nursing pads are a lot more convenient, they contain absorbent chemicals (like most disposable diapers) that you will be putting directly against your skin, which may then enter the babies mouth. They also lack proficient air circulation, which can lead to discomfort and trapped moisture whereas cloth nursing pads are made of natural fibers which provide better air circulation and help aid the healing process of sore and chapped nipples. I literally throw these in the wash with Elijah’s baby clothes and I’m all set. They’re a bit more costly upfront then disposable pads, but will save you some pennies in the long run.
People call me crazy cause my child has funky looking pacifiers, but these are the best paci’s ever! Natursutton is made ecologically sustainable from pure natural rubber from the tree Hevea brasiliensis. These pacifiers are free of allergy causing substances, artificial color, cancer causing substances, hormone disturbing substances, chemical softeners and Parabens, PVC and phthalates. They are softer than silicone and are very hygienic because they are molded in one piece without joints or cracks where dirt and bacteria can accumulate. My favorite part, Natursutten is designed to gently touch your baby’s nose to give the same secure feeling experienced during breastfeeding. Seriously!? The cutest most clever thing ever!
THE WORLDS BEST BABY WIPES. EVER. Okay, so that’s just my opinion, but they are called the “Worlds Purest Baby Wipes,” which obviously makes them the best! The wipes are literally two ingredients, TWO INGREDIENTS GUYS; 99.9% water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract (which is free of harmful ingredients such as parabens, triclosan, or quaternary ammonium compounds.) They are the only wipes that contain absolutely no chemicals that irritate the skin and may help avoid diaper rash and other skin conditions. Definitely a must in my book!
Hand sanitizer is definitely a must when having a baby, but did you know a lot of hand sanitizers out there are actually hurting you rather than helping you? Triclosan, which is an active ingredient in a lot of hand sanitizers out there, is said to lead to hormonal disruptions and cause bacteria to adapt to its antimicrobial properties, which create more antibiotic-resistant strains and actually harm our immune systems. Babyganics hand sanitizer is free of triclosan, alcohol, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, artificial fragrances and dyes. Mom win.
My favorite organic cotton muslin blankets and sheets… EVER! Modern Burlap is a small shop owned by a mama of 2 with only one thing in mind, to make the safest organic products for her babies. The reason why organic cotton muslin fabric is so ideal for baby is because it is breathable, super absorbent, gets softer over time, eco friendly, and regulates body temperature. I literally have about 5 of these blankets and each and every one gets used! The best part about these blankets and sheets is that they are all black and white patterns and the reason why this mama chose black and white is because these two colors send the strongest visual signals to baby’s brain which enhance baby’s vision and stimulate brain development. Super clever, right!?
I LOVE this sink tub and so does Elijah! The design of this tub cradles baby perfectly into the kitchen or bathroom sink and makes them feel secure while in it. It is so convenient and easy to use, unlike most big bulky tubs out there. I love that it doesn’t absorb water, which means no nasty bacteria will grow on this tub. It is a flexible non-toxic foam that keeps the baby protected while bathing in the sink and it’s non slip grip makes it easier for me to bathe Elijah. The best part, I hang it up behind the bathroom door when we’re done… mom win for space saving!
Organic cotton is a a must when it comes to sheets, towels, wash clothes and clothing for baby. While we don’t always buy organic clothing for Elijah, we did make sure he wore organic cotton clothing the first couple of months of his life, (and he still does from time to time) but Burts Bee’s was definitely one of the top brands on our list. Cotton is one of the most heavily chemically treated crops IN THE WORLD and since a baby’s skin is so thin and tender, it easily absorbs the toxic chemicals. We also use Burt’s Bees organic wash cloths and towels for Elijah, and as stated earlier, Modern Burlaps crib and changing table sheets, as well as their swaddle blankets. Burt’s Bee’s also has great sheets, blankets and changing table organic cotton selections as well, and the CUTEST baby and kid organic clothing! Our baby’s rub their little faces and bodies all over their sheets and towels/washcloths, so why not invest in safe, non-toxic products to know that they’re safe as well.
Elijah LOVES his Sophie! She is 100% all natural rubber derived from the sap of the Hevea tree. Her spots and colors are painted with food-grade paint (which is lead free) and it is made in Europe. Sophie is a bit more pricey than other “chew” toys, but you are putting a non toxic chewer into your baby’s mouth, which at that point is worth more than the price. Her neck makes it easy for baby’s to grasp and little ears and legs are the perfect little chewing spots! She is definitely a hit in our home.
I’ve been incorporating essential oils into my life since 2013 and I’ve been hooked ever since. So, it was a no brainer that once I’d have children, I’d do the same for them. I started out with doTERRA and now use both doTERRA and Young Living. When it comes to essential oils, you need to definitely educate yourself. There are currently no standards when it comes to labeling a bottle of essential oil. A bottle can say “100% Natural” or even “Therapeutic” or anything similar, but none of these terms are regulated which means that unless you research how they produce the oils, you really won’t know how “pure” of an oil you are actually putting on or in your body. That is why I trust Young Living Essential Oils, as well as doTERRA. They are 100% therapeutic grade oils derived from organically grown or wildcrafted plants. These oils are steam distilled at certain pressures or pressed and stored in the correct manner. The vast majority of other essential oils are extracted using high heat, high pressure, and chemical solvents. Although the final product may still contain the aroma of the plant, these harsh processing methods destroy the therapeutic qualities of the oils. Using lesser-quality oils for therapeutic purposes is never recommended and can be extremely toxic, especially when using on a baby.
I use essential oils on Elijah every single day. His daily moisturizer is actually a blend I make of organic grape seed oil, fractionated coconut oil, Lavender and Gentle Baby essential oils. “Gentle Baby” is an AHH-MAZING oil blend by Young Living that I also use on Elijah’s little body, as well as mine, and this oil is a LIFESAVER. It is a soothing blend of some of the best essential oils, It does everything from soothe, calm, supports a healthy digestive/respiratory system and healthy skin. I also diffuse it every night for elijah, along with Lavender and Cedarwood essential oils. Aside from rubbing his daily moisturizer blend, I also rub “Thieves” or “On-Guard” on his feet everyday to promote a healthy immune system for my little bubs. There are so many great benefits of oils and if you’d like more information, feel free to shoot me a message and I’d love to help you!
I hope I was able to be of help to all you new and pregnant mamas out there seeking the healthier path for you and your little ones. If you have any non-toxic baby products you love, feel free to comment them below. I’d love to give them a try!
